Cabinet refinishing

Solid wood preservation
$1,800 – $6,500

For solid wood cabinets where you want to keep the wood grain visible. We strip the original finish, sand to bare wood, and re-stain or re-clear-coat.

  • Original stain or clear coat fully stripped
  • Wood grain stays visible — no colour-blocking paint
  • Re-stained, re-toned, or clear-coated only
  • The right call for cottage and heritage kitchens

Cabinet refacing

Hardware-grade upgrade
$5,000 – $12,000+

Brand-new doors and drawer fronts installed over your existing cabinet boxes. The closest thing to a kitchen renovation without a renovation budget.

  • New doors and drawer fronts (you pick the style)
  • Existing boxes stay — saves the demo cost
  • Boxes re-veneered to match the new doors
  • Best when boxes are sound but doors are dated or damaged

What's included

Every cabinet job. Every door. Factory-grade prep.

The reason cabinet paint chips in 18 months is because somebody skipped the prep. Our included scope is what makes Renner and Envirolak hold for the long run.

01

Door + drawer removal

Every door, drawer front, and panel removed and labelled. Map of every cabinet kept on file for reinstall.

02

Hardware removal + refit

Hinges, pulls, knobs removed and bagged. Reinstalled at the end — or swapped to new hardware you've picked.

03

Degrease + clean

Kitchens collect a decade of cooking grease. Every surface gets a degreaser-and-rinse pass before any sandpaper touches it.

04

Degloss + sand

Existing finish scuff-sanded and deburred. Bonding-primer-ready surface — required for paint to stick on MDF, laminate, and thermofoil.

05

Bonding primer

Renner or Envirolak bonding primer, formulated to grip non-porous substrates like melamine, laminate, and previously-painted boxes.

06

2K topcoat (×2)

Two coats of Renner conversion varnish or Envirolak water-based 2K. Hardener catalyst mixed in just before the spray gun.

07

Mid-job inspection

Ahmed walks the job after primer and after the first topcoat. Every door checked under raking light for runs, dust nibs, and coverage.

08

1-year written warranty

Chipping, peeling, or premature failure on our workmanship — we come back and fix it. Written and signed at completion.

Cabinet painting projects

Every kind of cabinet. Any colour you want.

Whole kitchens, single vanities, MDF builts-ins, thermofoil from the early 2000s. We paint whatever can hold a topcoat.

Kitchen renos

Whole-kitchen colour change. Uppers, lowers, pantries, islands. Renner or Envirolak 2K, sprayed in-shop and on-site.

Bathroom vanities

Single, double, and floor-to-ceiling vanities. Plumbing masked, fixtures protected, factory-flat finish in 5 days.

Built-ins

Library shelves, mudroom lockers, entertainment units, home office built-ins. Same 2K coating as kitchens.

Laundry rooms

Laundry-room cabinet uppers and tall pantry units. Often the easiest test-drive for a kitchen colour you're not sure about yet.

MDF + laminate

MDF shaker doors, laminate boxes, melamine boxes — all paintable with the right bonding primer. Renner and Envirolak both bond.

Thermofoil cabinets

1990s and early-2000s thermofoil cabinets where the foil is lifting. We remove loose foil, sand the MDF, prime, and paint.

Painted-shaker upgrade

You've got white shaker cabinets that are starting to yellow. We strip the yellowed coating and respray pure white in Envirolak.

Two-tone treatments

Uppers in white, lowers in navy. Or island in a contrasting accent. Two finishes, one mobilization, single quote.

Transparent pricing

Real cabinet painting ranges. Door count drives the number.

Every estimate is free and on-site. We count every door, drawer front, and panel — no guesses.

galley + apartment kitchens
Medium kitchen (16–25 doors)
$2,200 – $4,200
most North Bay homes
Large kitchen (26+ doors)
$4,200 – $6,200
includes pantries + island
Bathroom vanity
$350 – $1,100
single to double
Laundry room
$600 – $1,800
uppers + tall pantry
Hardware swap
$50 – $150
per cabinet · plus hardware

Ranges reflect 2026 North Bay market pricing for full prep-and-spray cabinet paint jobs with Renner or Envirolak 2K coatings. MDF, laminate, and thermofoil sit at the upper end because they require a specialty bonding primer. Heavily damaged cabinets and intricate raised-panel doors also push pricing up.

Cabinet coatings

Renner and Envirolak. The 2K systems that hold up in a kitchen.

Standard wall paint cannot survive a kitchen. We use industrial 2K catalyzed coatings — the same chemistry used in factory cabinet shops worldwide.

Renner
Italian conversion varnish · 2K hardener system

Renner is an Italian-made cabinet coating system used in high-end kitchen factories worldwide. The conversion varnish chemistry mixes a hardener catalyst into the topcoat just before spraying — the resin cross-links into a finish that cures nearly as hard as a factory-melamine door. Excellent for high-traffic kitchens with kids and pets.

  • 2K conversion varnish — catalyzed for cabinet-grade hardness and abrasion resistance
  • Pre-catalyzed lacquer option — fast cure, sprayed in 8 to 12 mil builds
  • Excellent chemical resistance — kitchen grease, cleaners, food acids, hot pots
  • Smooth sprayed finish — feels like factory melamine, no brush marks, factory-flat
Envirolak
Canadian water-based · 2K low-VOC

Envirolak is a Canadian-made water-based 2K coating with hardener — a furniture-grade alternative to solvent-based lacquer. Low VOC, low odour, and non-yellowing on whites, which makes Envirolak the default Renner-or-Envirolak choice for any cabinet job in white, off-white, or pastel.

  • Water-based with catalyst — 2K hardener for cabinet-grade durability
  • Low-VOC, low-odour formulation — ideal for stay-in-home jobs, kids, pets
  • Non-yellowing on whites — pure white cabinets stay pure white over years
  • Range of sheens — flat, matte, satin, semi-gloss available

How much does cabinet painting cost in North Bay?

Cabinet painting in North Bay typically ranges from $1,600 to $6,200 depending on door count, drawer count, and substrate. A small kitchen with 10 to 15 doors runs $1,600 to $2,800. A medium kitchen with 16 to 25 doors runs $2,200 to $4,200. A large kitchen with 26+ doors runs $4,200 to $6,200. Bathroom vanities run $350 to $1,100. Laminate, thermofoil, and MDF substrates sit at the upper end because they need a specialty bonding primer. Every estimate includes door removal, hardware removal, degrease, degloss, primer, two coats of Renner or Envirolak 2K topcoat, reinstall, and a 1-year written warranty on workmanship from North Bay Painting Services.

Why use Renner or Envirolak instead of regular paint?

Standard wall paint and even premium trim paint will not survive a kitchen long-term. Cabinet doors get slammed, fingernails, kitchen grease, hot pots, soft-close drawers, and constant cleaning. Renner and Envirolak are 2K catalyzed coatings — meaning a hardener is mixed in just before spraying, and the chemistry cross-links into a finish that cures rock-hard. Renner is an Italian conversion varnish used in factory cabinet shops worldwide. Envirolak is a Canadian water-based 2K system with low VOC and low odour. Both are sprayed in our shop, never brushed, and hold up to abrasion, chemicals, and chip resistance at a level retail-grade paint cannot match. That is why North Bay Painting Services uses these two systems exclusively for cabinet work.

Can you paint laminate or thermofoil cabinets?

Yes. Laminate, melamine, MDF, and thermofoil cabinets can all be painted, and we paint them often. The key is the bonding primer. We scuff-sand the existing surface to break the gloss, clean with a degreaser, and apply a specialty bonding primer that is engineered for non-porous substrates. Then we spray two coats of Renner or Envirolak 2K topcoat. Thermofoil cabinets where the foil is peeling first need the loose foil removed and the MDF underneath sanded smooth. We will tell you on the on-site visit whether your cabinets are good candidates for paint, or whether refacing or refinishing is the better call.

How long does a cabinet paint job take?

A typical North Bay kitchen takes 5 to 7 working days. Day 1 we remove every door, drawer front, and hardware piece, label everything, and transport the doors to our spray shop. Days 2 and 3 we degrease, degloss, prime, and sand between coats. Days 4 to 6 we spray two coats of Renner or Envirolak 2K topcoat with proper flash and cure time between coats. Day 7 we reinstall, refit hardware, and check every door for level and swing. The cabinet boxes are painted on-site while the doors are in the shop, so the kitchen stays usable. You will be without cabinet doors for the full 5 to 7 day window.

Will the painted finish chip or yellow over time?

Not when the prep is done correctly and a 2K catalyzed coating is used. The two failure modes for painted cabinets are adhesion failure (paint chips off because prep was skipped) and yellowing (cheap solvent-based topcoats turn yellow under UV). Renner and Envirolak both address these. Our prep system — degrease, degloss, bonding primer, sand between coats, mid-job inspection by Ahmed Khalil — eliminates the adhesion failure. The Envirolak water-based 2K topcoat is non-yellowing on whites and pale colours, which is why we spec it for any cabinet job in white, off-white, or pastel. Renner conversion varnish is the call for darker colours and high-traffic kitchens. Every cabinet paint job is backed by a 1-year written workmanship warranty.
